Illegal Dumping

Partnerships and Funding for Community Clean-Up

The Fruitvale neighborhood of D5 currently deals with a disproportionate amount of illegal dumping compared to the rest of Oakland. Exacerbating the issue is that the corridor along East 9th Street features a blend of city, county, and railroad land—no single entity is equipped to properly address the dumping on their own land.

We can and should:

  • Develop programs in partnership with Alameda County, with the railroad, and with community organizations that have the requisite experience and political will to deal with these problems.

  • Following a massive budget restructuring and the creation of a city-funded job corps, use newly created positions to address the clean-up of illegal dumping. We can only address these public health issues with public health solutions.

I love every single part of my district, and I take care of what I love. I’ll make sure city council finds lasting solutions to the problem of illegal dumping.
